For centuries, millennia even, we have questioned and debated why some people achieve great things and others do not.
What is it exactly that separates these figures?
What could it be that decides why a small minority of people reach the heights of power and success whilst others accomplish so little—sometimes nothing at all?
Our instinctive response is to reach for explanations that exist outside of our control.
We assume that the family we are born into, the wealth or genetics we inherit, the period in history we find ourselves a part of, are solely responsible for the outcomes we experience.
Of course, such factors do naturally play a role in what we achieve.
