People might lie and conceal secrets with their words—denying the occurrence of certain events or the existence of various insecurities—but the truth always reveals itself in one way or another.
Whether through nonverbal cues or passing comments that slip out during momentary lapses of judgement, people cannot help but expose their innermost thoughts and feelings in some form.
This is especially true when the information being hidden is extraordinarily sensitive or confidential.
Most of us are naturally uncomfortable with the prospect of lying, even when the lie is mundane.
But when the relevant lie carries severe consequences, the pressure escalates, and we become painfully uncomfortable, causing our bodies and minds to react in ways that are outside of our control.
