On the surface, it seems as though, as a species, we are more individualistic than ever.

We are constantly being told that we are free to believe whatever we want, be whoever we want, wear whatever we want, say whatever we want, and more.

And yet, below the surface, we have become strangely conformist.

Rarely do we come across individuals who are truly independent, who do not easily fit into predefined categories, who know themselves and the world around them in a profound way.
